Abstract
Purpose: To describe the current mammography accreditation program by KIAMI and to review of the results of mammography quality control during 4years.

Materials and Methods: Mammography accreditation program involves reviewing standards of the personnel information, the quality control procedure records and evaluation both phantom and clinical images. Mammography phantom test is performed using ACR phantom. The four largest fibers, three largest speck groups, three largest masses and total 10 test objects must be visible for the phantom images to pass. For each mammography unit, the facility must submit bilateral mediolateral oblique and craniocaudal mammograms in a woman with fatty breasts and a woman with dense breasts. When the total score is less than 60, images fail.

Results: In 2007, 95% of total mammography units completed their accreditation exams. It is important to note that the proportion of obsolete mammography have been decreased from 2005 to 2007 (32.1%). The average failure rate was 6% and it was lower than that of ACR. For the obsolete machines, a high failure rate was shown in 2007 (58.9%) that was much higher than the average failure rate (6%).

Conclusion: The KIAMI¡¯s Mammography accreditation program has been helping facilities improve the image quality by peer review and professional feed back. And for the purpose of improving early detection of breast cancer, the KIAMI is planning to expand their accreditation programs for multiple other aspects.
